About Jeff Lanier

Jeff Lanier is a Texas-based modern American painter who lives and works in Houston. A self-taught artist, he has developed his practice through independent study, professional experience in the art world, and disciplined studio practice. With a background in art history, time at Sotheby’s, and study in Italy, his work draws equally on intellect and intuition.

Lanier’s paintings explore the quiet tension between structure and emotion—between what is seen and what is felt. Rather than storytelling, his work is guided by what remains when narrative is removed and color, form, and silence carry the meaning. Drawing from imagery of poolside leisure, fashion, and domestic space, he reassembles fragments of culture through fields of color, geometric bands, and deliberate geometry—creating a dialogue between recognition and abstraction.

His work reflects a belief that simplicity can hold depth, and that meaning often emerges in the quiet spaces between things—between past and present, image and idea, the painter and the viewer.

Jeff is an American Society of Aesthetics member and lives in Houston with his wife and three kids.
